Starlink Launches Diversified Business

In order to give full play to the global coverage advantage of the Starlink service network, SpaceX of the United States conducted a test of the "Global Roaming Service" of the Starlink constellation in February 2023, intending to provide network access services to the world, so that users can enjoy network connection services in any region of the world. SpaceX said that the "Global Roaming Service" is expected to provide high-speed, low-latency "Starlink" connection services, and provide network connection services to areas with weak or no network connection.
At the same time, SpaceX of the United States continues to promote the diversified business development of "Starlink". In terms of airborne services, "Starlink" is currently providing airborne Internet access services for JSX Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Baltic Airlines and ZIPAIR Airlines. In October 2023, JSX of the United States stated that since January, the company has equipped all passenger aircraft with the "Starlink" airborne connection system. As the world's first aviation customer of "Starlink", JSX is providing free wireless network services to passengers. According to passenger test data, the Starlink network connection speed can reach 160Mbps during the flight. Although there are rate fluctuations, it can basically meet the needs of services such as video calls and streaming. In October, Qatar Airways announced that it would use the Starlink system to launch free high-speed, low-latency wireless Internet services on designated aircraft and routes to further enhance the onboard experience of Qatar Airways passengers. After the service is launched, passengers can enjoy 350Mbps ultra-high-speed wireless network, supporting services such as online viewing.

In terms of ship services, SpaceX announced in April that the Starlink network has achieved communication coverage capabilities for global waters. In June 2023, Australian Speedcast signed a multi-year contract extension with Lindblad Expeditions Cruise Company and added the Starlink service to its communication services. Speedcast installed high-performance flat-panel antennas at sea on Lindblad's ships. Lindblad said Starlink will provide communication support for passengers, crew members and scientists. In September, SpaceX and Luxembourg-based SES reached a cooperation agreement to provide satellite communication network services for maritime users such as cruise operators. According to the agreement, SpaceX's Starlink low-orbit satellite will integrate spectrum with SES's Cruise mPower medium-orbit satellite to provide satellite connectivity for sea areas except the Arctic and Antarctic regions. The service is divided into two types: one is the Pro-level service, which provides 1.5Gbps communication capacity through 10 Starlink satellites and 2-3 mPower satellites; the other is the Premium-level service, which provides 3Gbps communication capacity through 18 Starlink satellites and 2-3 mPower satellites. In addition, the cooperation agreement allows SpaceX and SES to independently sell services to the maritime market.

In October, Denmark's Maersk Group cooperated with SpaceX to install the Starlink system on more than 330 cargo ships. It is reported that the Starlink system will provide cargo ships with a network communication rate of 200Mbps to meet the daily communication and streaming network needs of crew members. In addition, Maersk Group will use the Starlink system to expand seamless cloud solutions to enable ships to realize their vision of digital operations. In the same month, Japan's Mitsui & Co., Ltd. decided to introduce Starlink satellite communication services on its 233 ocean-going ships.

In terms of railway services, in May 2023, SpaceX and Brightline Railway Company reached a cooperation agreement to provide free Starlink network services in 10 trains in some cities in Florida. The 10 trains include 5 trains connecting Miami and West Palm Beach in southern Florida, and 5 trains to Orlando in central Florida. Brightline said that as the first passenger railway company to use the Starlink satellite network, it will provide railway users with high-speed, low-latency network services such as streaming, online games, and video calls.
